Hey K-Dirt listeners...be sure to tune in for The Golden Road's annual "4th of July Special" broadcast.

In this edition of The Golden Road we are gonna lay down a rocking soundtrack to honor our nation's birthday. Have a full armload of classic Americana sounds courtesy of the good ol' Grateful Dead to send out over the airwaves including a bunch of great material from the most recent Grateful Dead Production release, "Crimson, White and Indigo". Recorded live in Philly in July of 1989, a beautiful multi-track from JFK Stadium in the city where the Declaration of Independence was signed.

We also will help you to "Get Hip To History" with a ravingly cool rap by Lord Buckley about a little tea party that went down in Boston a few years back that helped spark the fuse to the revolution...you won't want to miss this!

On Sunday, May 2nd, The Golden Road will take the cover off of the shiny, gleaming spaceship and take 'er for a spin around the cosmos...it's been awhile!

Our featured sounds will be from a 1996 release entitled, "Gray Folded". This release was produced by a fellow named John Oswald who was given an open door to the Grateful Dead's legendary archival recordings vault. Once inside the hallowed halls of the vault, Oswald culled portions of over 50 live versions of the Dead's all-time improvisational & experimental tune, "Dark Star", and blended them into a sonic journey that is unlike anything you have ever heard before.

As Jerry Garcia once said in an interview, "I have a long continuum of "Dark Stars" which range in character to real different extremes. Dark Star has meant, while i'm playing it, almost as many things as I could imagine."

During this broadcast, recordings from the Merry Pranksters "social mixer" events will also be part of the sonic tapestry on hand.

Ladies and Gentlemen, for your listening pleasure, the one...the only..."Walkin' Talkin' Rockin'" Lee Renault...host of KDRT's beloved "Eclectic Dinosaur" program...will be joining me in the KDRT studio this Thursday, April 15 from 7 to 8 pm. There's always a whiff of danger when we get together and start yappin' about classic American music...yea boy!

But we promise to be judicious with our yappin', and we will for sure make it happen with a big ol' bunch of sounds that will keep you spinnin' round!

Archives mas fina!

Be sure to tune into The Grapevine to hear a very special broadcast featuring the incredible sounds of the one, the only...Steely Dan. Here's one of my favorite quotes from record reviewers on their music:

Like Pigpen used to sing, "I asked my doctor, just what I had..." And what was the eternal answer? "All you need...all you really need is GOOD LOVE!" Well, that and some good healing vibes to the good Dr. Strangely Strange.

Ol' Doc Strange took a spill and will be on the mend for a spell. When he's ready, we'll get him back on the air here at The Dirt. In the meantime, this edition of The Golden Road is dedicated to him with all the bells, whistles and transportational sounds that you might expect from us crazy's down here at the station. We begin on Earth, and then sail off for another land in the distant galaxy.
