KDRT, KFOK & KFAT: Low Power Radio Cross-Pollination on The Golden Road November 9th

Dial it in to 95.7 or KDRT.org on November 9th at 2:00 pm for a unique broadcast on The Golden Road.  Cathy Rohm, host of The Red Dirt Roadhouse show on KFOK in Georgetown, will be joining me for 2 hours  of "low-power radio cross-pollination" for your listening entertainment...and hopefully, enjoyment!

We'll regale listeners with tales of how we met, how we hatched an idea to "head for the hills" and go "down to the valley", our experiences in seeing & hearing so many great musicians in live settings...but most of all, our love for the wonderful opportunities that only low-power radio can provide.  And any fans of the infamous & dearly missed KFAT (out of Gilroy) will be in for a real treat...we'll even be spinning some sounds outta the KFAT archives.  Who knows, maybe we'll end up calling it "The Golden Red K-Dirt Fat Roadhouse"!

Golden Road interviews Grateful Dead member Bob Bralove

Join us for a plush side trip down the Golden Road as Bob Bralove, former member of The Grateful Dead and sound sculptor extraordinare, discusses his upcoming live exploratory experience at the Davis Cemetery Gallery 1 to 4 pm on October 13. For the performance, Bob will be joined by Robin Sylvester and Dave Amato to round out the Bob Bralove Psychedelic Cabaret.

This will be Bob Bralove's second live interview on KDRT. He is an excellent touchstone & storyteller for any fan of The Grateful Dead through his experiences and direct contributions to the band that were captured both in the recording studio and live on stage ... and of course, Bob's own excellent improvisational sounds.Bob Bralove's website

"Butane" James Brown. This, K-DIRT listeners, will be the real thing! Burnin' Rubber on The Grapevine's Annual Hot Rod Special!

Once a year, and only once a year, The Grapevine tops off that '62 Cadillac Coupe De Ville convertible...aqua blue on the outside...cream colored leather on the inside...seats as big as sofas, and hits the road in search of the sounds that were "boss" back in the day.  We make no apologies in paying homage to the time when top fuel gasoline was cheap, full-blown Detroit engines were huge and the call of burnin' rubber on the asphalt was not only cool...but loud and clear!

Join us for a rockin' Grapevine broadcast to kick off summertime starting with a way gone green light...a pedal to the metal... on down to the checkered flag...right here on KDRT...where the grass roots grow.

Here's a cool vid to whet your appetite for what is to come:

The Golden Road Welcomes Bob Bralove on February 7th

During the live broadcast of the Golden Road on February 7th at 6:00 pm, we welcome musician, composer, producer, artist and visionary, Bob Bralove of San Francisco.  Bob achieved considerable acclaim through his supremely creative work with the Grateful Dead during the late-1980's and early-1990's by essentially integrating modern sound alternatives (such as MIDI) into the live and studio mix of the band.

Bob Bralove is also an accomplished visual artist striving to create mind-expanding acrylic, pen & ink and even computer-generated art.  He will open an exhibit of his art at the Davis Cemetery Gallery on Sunday, February 10th from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at 820 Pole Line Road here in Davis.

Here is a link for more information on the upcoming art exhibit:

The Golden Road airs live on KDRT each Thursday from 6 - 8 pm.

The Grapevine Welcomes Davis music producer, Bill Fairfield

Tune in to The Grapevine this Wednesday, December 12th, for an enjoyable hour of conversation & sounds with local music producer (and all-around long-time supporter of all things music in Davis) Bill Fairfield. Bill's Davis roots run deep in the fertile Yolo County music soil and we will have the excellent opportunity to talk to him about Davis music history including the infectious rhythmic path that led from the Spydels to local favorites Mumbo Gumbo. And of course, the hour will not be complete without exploring the background of the annual "Home For The Holidays" benefit show that Bill produces in support of the Davis public schools arts programs.

The Golden Road's 2012 Grateful Dead Trivia Contest

Hiya K-DIRT Listeners!

The Golden Road is feeling mighty thankful...to broadcast a weekly show featuring the music of the Grateful Dead, Jerry Garcia and the sounds of Northern California is a wonderful opportunity. Since the month of November holds many fond memories for me, each broadcast of The Golden Road for Novemeber 2012 features music recorded live IN November! And since i'm feeling so thankful, and Thanksgiving IS right around the corner, I would like to host a little trivia contest.

The lucky winner will receive the 3 disc official vault release, "Grateful Dead Road Trips, Volume 4, Number 3 Live from Denver, Colorado". This excellent release was recorded live on November 20 & 21, 1973.

Here are the questions:

1. The song "Bertha" is about an appliance. What kind?

2. Phil Lesh once said, "It is safe to say that if we all had one wish, it would be that....". What was the one thing Phil wished for?

3. The Grateful Dead played more shows in a legendary San Francisco music venue than any other. What was the name of the venue?

The Eclectic Dinosaur Meets The Grapevine

This Wednesday, October 17th, the legendary "Walkin' Talkin' Rockin'" Lee Renault...host of KDRT's Eclectic Dinosaur show...joins me in the 'Dirt studio for an hour of old time Rock 'n Roll, the Blues and even a touch of Doo-Wop on The Grapevine. This will be our 3rd joint broadcast together and there's no telling where the highway will lead this time! Additionally, we are going to do our best to play nothing but good, old vinyl.
