DJ Trop’a, is a French DJ living in Davis, CA, plays HIP HOP, REGGAE, JAZZ, SOUL and BLUES using vinyl (yes, some still exists) and a computer driven mixer.
As a member of the PLS SOUND SYSTEM, a French DJ Crew based in Marseille and Aix-en-Provence (France) he meets and collaborates with DJ and musicians that enrich his musical experiences through the years 2000s.
DJ Trop’a started spinning in 2000, pushed by friends from the PLS Sound System who introduced him to the vinyl universe.
The PLS Sound System is a formation of one MC, Sir Billy Wallace, and four DJ’s including Selecta Palpas, Selecta Genzo, DJ Jon’z and DJ Trop’a. From 2002 to 2011, he played with the PLS Sound System in and around Marseille (France). Later DJ Trop’a and his friends from the PLS created an association,“jamais203promotion”, providing an administrative support to their activities and aiming to become a hub for vinyl culture. From 2003 to 2006, this group organized the “Open Mix”, a weekly event taking place in associative pubs and collaborated with other DJs, particularly from the Crab Talking Family DJ crew. Many shows in Marseille and Aix-en-Provence resulted from such collaborations. By mid-2000′s, Selecta Palpas initiated a Radio show at radio zinzine in Aix-en-Provence, named “Position Laterale de Securite”, for which DJ Trop’a regularly participated by providing live mix sessions with vinyl.
Since the summer 2013, DJ Trop’a is collaborating with “Boca Do Rio” to bring the sound and energy of Brazilian soul, samba, funk-tronica and spiritual grooves mixed with unique and flavorful scratching and sampling.
BJ Trop’a regular venues are:
-Musical meeting: multi kind and relaxed where he invites friends to share their music every Thursday from 6 to 10PM at DELTA OF VENUS, 122 B st. DAVIS, CA 95616
-Come Clean (in Collaboration with Mr. Glass): Hip-Hop night using vinyl only; every 3nd Friday of the month from 10PM to 2PM at Sophia’s Thai Kitchen 129 E Street, Suite E, Davis, CA 95616
-Concrete Jungle (in Collaboration with Mr. Glass and Mr. Leonard): Reggae Night; place and time are subject to change
