Winter Trees by William Carlos Williams
All the complicated details
of the attiring and
the disattiring are completed!
A liquid moon
moves gently among
the long branches.
Thus having prepared their buds
against a sure winter
the wise trees
stand sleeping in the cold.

4) Baby It’s Cold Outside, Leigh Nash featuring Gabe Nixon 3:16

Sonnet in the Shape of a Potted Christmas Tree
by George Starbuck
O
fury-
bedecked!
O glitter-torn!
Let the wild wind erect
bonbonbonanzas; junipers affect
frostyfreeze turbans; iciclestuff adorn
all cuckolded creation in a madcap crown of horn!
It’s a new day; no scapegrace of a sect
tidying up the ashtrays playing Daughter-in-Law Elect;
bells! bibelots! popsicle cigars! shatter the glassware! a son born
now
now
while ox and ass and infant lie
together as poor creatures will
and tears of her exertion still
cling in the spent girl’s eye
and a great firework in the sky
drifts to the western hill.
8) I’ll Be Home for Christmas, Elvis Presley duet with Carrie Underwood 3:34
9) Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town, Bruce Springsteen 4:28
10) Santa Baby, Macy Gray 3:28
Choices
by Tess Gallagher
I go to the mountain side
of the house to cut saplings,
and clear a view to snow
on the mountain. But when I look up,
saw in hand, I see a nest clutched in
the uppermost branches.
I don’t cut that one.
I don’t cut the others either.
Suddenly, in every tree,
an unseen nest
where a mountain
would be.

11) Do You Hear What I Hear?, The Roches 3:03
12) Stille Nacht, Heilige Nacht, Winterbloom 2:34
13) Away In a Manger, Mindy Smith 2:43
Christmas Night
by Conrad Hilberry
Let midnight gather up the wind
and the cry of tires on bitter snow.
Let midnight call the cold dogs home,
sleet in their fur—last one can blow

the streetlights out. If children sleep
after the day’s unfoldings, the wheel
of gifts and griefs, may their breathing
ease the strange hollowness we feel.

Let midnight draw whoever’s left
to the grate where a burnt-out log unrolls
low mutterings of smoke until
a small fire wakes in its crib of coals.

14) Have A Holly Jolly Christmas, Burl Ives 2:13
15) The Chipmunk Song, by Alvin and the Chipmunks 2:22
16) The Christmas Song, Bob Dylan 3:57

Priceless Gifts
by Anna Swir
An empty day without events.
And that is why
it grew immense
as space. And suddenly
happiness of being
entered me.

I heard
in my heartbeat
the birth of time
and each instant of life
one after the other
came rushing in
like priceless gifts.

17) Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmasm Winterbloom 1:35
