First Fridays Concert Series Wraps-Up with Guitar Extravaganza on April 3rd

What do you get when you combine the accomplished acoustic guitar stylin' of Dave Nachmanoff, the imaginative blues of Bill Scholer, and the eclectic, world beat of Kurt Roggli into ONE show?

You get an awesome showcase of local guitar talent and a groovin' good time. You get the final concert in the fabulous First Fridays series, that benefits KDRT 95.7FM & the Davis Odd Fellows Music Committee. You get a reasonably-priced downtown Davis concert experience that helps support local music, local media, and an acoustically stellar venue at the Davis Odd Fellows Hall. First Fridays, hosted by Davis Media Access & the Davis Odd Fellows, is a concert series fundraiser AND a celebration of KDRT's successful fight to stay on the Davis airwaves. After an 18-month battle with a commercial station seeking to expand its range and broadcast on our frequency, the FCC issued us a waiver. So, in September of 2008, a new tower was raisied for KDRT, and we began a "new chapter" on 95.7FM. We could not have done it without a huge amount of volunteer and community support, and this concert series serves as our victory party! Who better to celebrate with us than Bill Scholer, local guitar favorite and longtime supporter of KDRT ? Scholer will be showcasing some of his original songs with Waiting for Bruce, a recent incarnation that also features Kurt Roggli on guitar (Akimbo), and will include Jeff Simons on bass (Akimbo). Jeff Simons & Bill Scholer go way back, and once traveled together to Russia and the Ukraine to play the blues, as part of a Davis sister-city cultural exchange. Opening the evening will be another well-traveled Davis-based guitarist, Dave Nachmanoff. Dave was previously honored as songwriter of the year in 2001 by Just Plain Folks, and was also named the winner in the New Folk Artist Album of the Year category. That year, over 35,000 songs were submitted for judging from all 50 states and over 30 countries. Dave often tours with Al Stewart, and has shared the stage with Cheryl Wheeler, Alison Krause, The Pogues, America and many more. The doors will open at the Davis Odd Fellows Hall at 6:30p.m. and the music will begin at 7:15 p.m and run through 10p.m. Tickets--$15 general ($17 at the door) $10 students w/ID ($12 at the door)-- are available at Davis Media Access, Armadillo Music or online at www.kdrt.org Proceeds will benefit KDRT 95.7FM and our partners, the Davis Odd Fellows Music Committee.
